Some software programs are
designed around the concept of pedigree; son, father, grandfather, daughter,
mother, grandmother, etc creating a straight bloodline ancestry.
Many modern day families
don't roll that way. We have adoptees, gays, transgendered, mixed race
adoptees, fosters and other configurations. Many are in my own family.
I love them all unconditionally and want to include them in my genealogy software
and family tree.
There are some folks who are so important to the family who are not blood or legal relations. One might want to include them in
their family history writings and family tree. I would like to see the major
genealogy software address this.
The above screenshot shows that family Tree Maker 2012 can handle the gender issue without a problem. Since it can also sync up with my Ancestry.com account, I'm pleased for the moment.
My family and ancestors are a multicultural bunch. I would love to see a field where one could input the ethnicity of the person.
